ISTE Coaching Standard 4 — Learning Designer
This portfolio artifact is strongest when viewed as evidence of collaborative learning design rather than simply as a technology project.
Core alignment
Researchers and educators worked together to transform specialized scientific instrumentation, professional data, and authentic research questions into experiences secondary students could access through hands-on construction, observation, modeling, quantitative analysis, and inquiry.
Collaborative Design
Teacher expertise and Stanford research expertise were deliberately combined. The project depended on both perspectives.
Authenticity
Students interacted with real signals, real solar imagery, real historical datasets, and observations that had meaning beyond the classroom.
Student Agency
The culminating work required prediction, evidence collection, comparison, and communication—not merely following a scripted procedure.
Connected Learner
The project also documents professional learning through sustained relationships among educators, scientists, engineers, and students. Educators gained access to authentic scientific practice while researchers drew on teacher expertise to make the experience effective for schools.
